Government First Grade College, Channapatna is a premier institution of higher learning. It was founded by the then MLA from Channapatna constituency in the year 1984. At that point of time there was no any other Government college in the locality which could offer higher education at lesser cost. The higher education during that time was not with in the reach of common man. The vision of the founder was to provide quality higher education to the aspirants coming from less-privileged and weaker sections of the society at an affordable cost. The college is located in the heart of the city. It is on Bangalore Mysore Road. It is well connected by Road and Rail. It is adjacent to KSRTC Bus stand. All facilities required by students of the college are easily available. All stakeholders of higher education can have accessibility to the Institution. |

The Institution has already completed 25 years of its existence. It is going to celebrate silver jubilee shortly.BA and B.Com courses were offered initially. Gradually other courses were introduced to cater to the local requirements. There was a demand for Management course and as such BBM was introduced on July 2006.Similarly there was a greater demand from local aspirants for science course. In pursuance of the policy of the Government to promote science education in the country B.SC course has been started from the current academic year 2010-11.The Institution is now offering Quality higher education in all disciplines such as Arts, Science, Commerce and Management. The Institution began with only 70 students in 1984. Out of 70 students 52 were in BA and the rest were in B.Com. The total number of students admitted to all courses is 2078 during the present academic year 2010-11.There has been substantial increase in the enrolment of students since its inception. The growth and development of institution academically in the last two and a half decades has been phenomenon in the field of higher education. The Institution is permanently affiliated to Bangalore University. It has been included U/S 2(f) and 12(B) of UGC Act. All courses and programs have been introduced as per the regulations of Bangalore University. |
