The Department of Kannada was established in the year 1984.Kannada is a subject of vernacular language. It is the second biggest language department in the college. More than 90% of students opt Kannada as a first language and the rest of the students opt either Urdu or Hindi or Sanskrit as first language. The department taught only language Kannada from the very beginning until HSK combination was introduced in 2002. In this combination Kannada is an optional subject. The department is now teaching language kannada to the students of all courses such as BA, B.COM, BBM & B.SC. And optional Kannada to selected students. The department has been in the forefront in conducting literary activities in the college. |

The teachers in the department are more enthusiastic and pro-active. They are all dedicated teachers and have devotion for their duties. They have a lot of concern for the students. One of the faculties holds PhD degree. Others are willing to peruse Doctorate degree in Kannada literature. They are yearning to update their knowledge by attending semenars, conferences and workshops. |

A literary club has been established in the department. All students of optional kannada are the members of the club. The club organizes literary activities frequently. The members of the club meet on every Saturday and debate and discuss over the issues pertaining to kannada literature. Besides, Shrujana Kannada Sangha has also been established.Apart from this “Suggi” a wall magazine is being brought out regularly and displayed. It provides a platform for students for creativity. All this gives an immense opportunity to the students to bring out their latent talents. The students are exposed to the literary world. The department is known for organizing special guest lectures frequently by inviting resource persons from the literary filed. The department is progressive in terms of quantity as well as quality. |

Dr. B.T. Nethravathy: She is a good scholar in kannada literature. She has guided Ph.D and M.phil candidates and has been guiding many more. She is often invited as a resource person to deliver special lectures on kannada literature by other educational institutions. She is also invited as a guest to make speeches in functions and programmes organized by the Government departments and other local associations. She has acted as judge in cultural competitions organized by other local agencies. She took part in HRD and TQM programme on effective teaching methods in 2004.She has also participated in training for trainers for implementation of kannada conducted by the District Training Centre in 2010. She has been a creative writer. She wrote many articles and got them published in news papers. She writes poems and would recite them in functions. She has been the columnist in local news papers. |
